Williamsport, PA - Reed Chumley’s two-run home run wasn’t enough as the Cutters fell 9-5 in the series finale to the Spikes, securing the sweep for State College.

Drew Bryan was the first Cutters starter to complete three innings. Bryan allowed two runs on three hits and a walk, striking out three, before working a perfect frame in the 3rd.

Ryan Geraghty had a tough outing, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks, giving the Spikes a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Daunte Stuart ripped his second double of the season to deep left field to open the bottom of the 4th inning for the Cutters. Reed Chumley followed with a 354-foot towering home run into the left field bullpen, cutting the Spikes lead in half. It was Chumley’s and the Cutters first home run of the season.

After a Torin Smith fly out, Eric Fernandez singled to center followed by a Tyler Herron infield single. Sean Smith continued the trend, ripping a RBI single to right, scoring Fernandez and cutting the Spikes lead to one.

Ryan Vogel knotted the game with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Herron. The Crosscutters inning ended with runners on the corners, as Tyrese Johnson was picked off at 1st base.

State College would respond immediately, scoring a pair of runs against Titan Hayes in the top of the 5th inning. The Spikes took a 6-4 lead and never looked back.

Williamsport was able to get within one run in the bottom of the 7th inning, as Jack Oberdorf skied a sacrifice fly to deep right, plating Vogel from 3rd. That would be the closest the Cutters would get the rest of the way.

James Vaughn and Jacob Hasty tossed back-to-back scoreless frames for the Cutters out of the bullpen to keep Williamsport with in reach, combining to strike out four batters, while walking one and allowing no hits.

The Spikes added a run in the 8th against Creed Watkins and then two more in the 9th against Nate Wohlgemuth to extend their lead to 9-5.

The Crosscutters will head to West Virginia Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
