Cutters Downed In Sudden Death

Williamsport, PA - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were able to edge the Williamsport Crosscutters in Sudden Death overtime, taking the first game of the weekend series.

Tyler Kennedy took the start for the Cutters, his 2nd of the season, looking to build upon his last outing on Opening Night. The right-hander got off to a great start, facing the minimum in the 1st.

Kennedy struggled in the 2nd, giving up a pair of runs on a pair of walks. He worked around three walks in the 3rd and struck out three more in the frame. Overall, Kennedy worked three innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on five walks and no hits. He struck out five batters.

Williamsport was able to strike back in the bottom of the 3rd inning, getting a two-out RBI single to right from Jack Oberdorf, that scored Daunte Stuart from 2nd base, cutting the deficit in half. For Oberdorf, it was his 7th RBI of the season.

Nate Wohlgemuth was fantastic out of the bullpen. He struck out four batters and walked one before getting lifted.

Jack Crowder and Ethan O’Neal each worked scoreless frames of relief, helping to keep the Cutters in the game.

Mahoning Valley added to their lead in the top of the 8th inning against Jacob Hasty. Hasty struggled with his command, walking five batters and allowing two runs to score over two-thirds of an inning. He did manage a strikeout in the outing.

Titan Hayes entered in the 8th and struck out the only batter he faced, leaving the bases loaded and the deficit at 4-1.

Jesse Litsch emptied his line up card in the bottom of the 8th inning, helping the Cutters to load the bases with two outs for Jacob Harper. Harper ripped a pitch just inside the bag at 3rd and into the left field corner, chasing home Stanley Tucker, Ryan Ignaffo and Colson Lawrence to tie the game at 4-4.

Both Mahoning Valley and Williamsport went scoreless in the 9th inning, sending the game to Sudden Death overtime. Williamsport chose to stay on defense.

Braeden O’Shaughnessy ripped a game-winning hit to left, scoring the placed runner from 2nd base to end the game.

The Crosscutters will look to even the series tomorrow night, first pitch scheduled for 6:35PM.
