Granville, WV - The Williamsport Crosscutters offense showed up again Thursday night as they scored an even dozen, defeating the West Virginia Black Bears 12-7. The bottom of the order provided a lot as they were able to bring home 10 of the 12 runs.

After falling behind 4-0 early, the Cutters fought back in the fifth inning as Reed Chumley drove a ball into left field for a double scoring Sean Smith. Jack Oberdorf followed up with a RBI double that brought in Tyrese Johnson to trim the Black Bears lead to 4-2.

After a double brought home two more runs for the Black Bears in the bottom of the fifth, the Cutters kept themselves in the game thanks to a great relay from Sean Smith and Eric Fernandez cutting down a runner at home and keeping the game within striking distance at 6-2.

This swing in momentum showed up right away as after a Torin Smith walk and a Eric Fernandez single, Sean Smith came up and crushed a three-run home run cutting the lead to one. It didn’t stop there as with the bases loaded, Gage Gundy came through smacking a two-run single to give the Cutters the lead 7-6 in the middle of the sixth.

After giving up the tying run in the seventh inning, the Cutters came charging right back in the eighth as after walks by Reed Chumley and Jacob Harper, Gage Cundy recorded a Sac Fly and Ryan Vogel came through with two out, two RBI single to give the Cutters a 9-7 lead.

The Cutters weren’t done yet as in the top of the ninth they scored three more times on a Tyrese Johnson single that drove home Tyler Herron, who got on base via an error. This was followed by a sacrifice fly by Reed Chumley which drove home Sean Smith who singled earlier in the inning. The last run of the day was driven in by Jack Oberdorf as he singled to right field which scored Johnson and gave Williamsport the 12-7 victory.

The pitching staff helped keep the Cutters in the ballgame as bullpen allowed five hits and three runs in six innings of work. Emmanuel Dooley would pick up his first win of the season while Jacob Peaden earned a two-inning save, his first of the season.

With tonight's win, Williamsport improves to 2-5 on the season and takes the series victory against the West Virginia Black Bears.

The Cutters now return to the friendly confines of Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field to open a six-game homestand against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the West Virginia Black Bears.
